Minnesota native, Dennis Warner, will be at the South Sioux City Public Library, for a concert on Friday night September 18th, 2009.

Accompanying his smooth vocals with his six and twelve string guitars, Dennis has performed his adult/family oriented concerts at not only major theaters, clubs and some of the best festivals around, but also in the small towns throughout America, drawing inspiration for songs that appeal to the universal aspects of our lives.
His many credits include hosting Jammin' with Dennis Warner, a special live radio show broadcast by National Public Radio affiliates. Dennis has also been featured on numerous regional T.V. and radio programs, as well as national broadcasts of NPR's Great Acoustics, Live! and River City Folk.
Valerie Smith and Liberty Pike will appear at the South Sioux City Public Library on Friday night September 4th at 7:00 p.m.
Valerie Smith's musical soul has its roots in the Missouri River Valley of Kansas City, Missouri. Born to musical parents, she was exposed to such divergent styles as western, jazz, bluegrass, gospel and opera.
Smith is a talented singer/songwriter who plays guitar, old time fiddle, clarinet and piano. She has assembled in Liberty Pike a talented band, whose musical styles flow from bluegrass to folk, to swing without missing a beat. But the heart of the music is bluegrass.
Valerie Smith's website is http://www.valeriesmithonline.com/. From there you can find out about new releases, Valerie's biography, concert schedule and more.
The South Sioux City Public Library is located at 2121 Dakota Avenue, in South Sioux City, Nebraska. If you would like more information on the concert, call me at the library, 402-494-7545.
The men from Tonic Solf Fa were kind enough to call us Wednesday morning to tell us about their new cd, "Just One Of Those Days" and to let us know they'll be here for their annual Christmas concert and for Artsplash!!!
I was able to visit with Marcus-Meridan-Cleghorn students Tuesday about all of their upcoming activities! Odyssey of the Mind students are going to the WORLD Finals, a history class is creating an "Unspoken Heroes" exhibit honoring those lost in the holocaust and a music concert will be held next month. These bright students are VERY busy learning everyday! Here's some audio from my visit...
2008 CMA Awards show nuggets from Tony's couch
The CMA Awards show remain my favorite of the genre. The sound quality is FAR superior than that of the ACM which sounds like a cheap AM transistor radio. I enjoyed the 1-2 punch of co-hosts Brad and Carrie. They make a pretty good team and kept the show moving forward at a pretty quick pace. Brad is a funny individual and Carrie is one classy star that America can relate with thanks in part to that ratings bonanza singing competition tv show on Fox.
Speaking of ratings, it was interesting to see the big moments happen at the top of every hour.
Check it out...
7:00pm - Brad Paisley and Keith Urban’s "Start a Band"
8:00pm - Taylor Swift and then the Kid Rock performance
9:01pm - Carrie Underwood’s moving "Just a Dream"
Were tv execs trying to woo potential new viewers tuning into ABC after the conclusion of other shows?
Who is more adorable? Reese Witherspoon or Julianne Hough? I would give a slight edge to Reese Witherspoon who was sporting some of the reddest lipstick I’ve ever seen on television. Let’s just say it was a far cry from KTIV’s Kristie Ver Mulm’s infamous chocolate mocha lipstick. Reese stars in that "Four Christmases" movie that looks like it could be a hoot. Too bad, the trailer didn’t include any Tim McGraw footage.
What the heck was up with Jay DeMarcus’ coat? Only Ralph Ferley (Three’s Company) could pull that off. I wish the tv crews would have showed more Rascal Flatt’s wives. Wowza!
CMA Highlights
1) The Leslie Sponder segment before Carrie Underwood’s "Just a Dream". Her husband Trey was killed in action on June 28th, 2005.
2) Brad Paisley ran off the stage and kissed Kimberly’s pregnant belly (Huck’s future sibling).
3) I really enjoyed the Raggae guy during Kenny’s performance. Where can I get one of those hats?
4) Shania looked fantastic. Ask Kenny.
5) Kid Rock puts on a SHOW. What a fun concert that would be!
6) Keith Urban’s "Sweet Thing" and Keith & Brad jamming on guitar....
CMA Lowlights
1) Who was the big surprise artist? The Eagles? We knew they were on the docket. Shania? She DIDN’T SING. What the heck? I expected a Palin sighting. Bruce Springsteen’s name was the rumored on the internet machine. He was nowhere to be seen. What a major let-down.
2) The Carrie Underwood dress made of black feathers. Really? How was that a good choice?
3) Closeups of James Otto. He’s a great singer. He put on a great concert with Big & Rich at the TEC, but he looks like a goofy looking radio guy. And this is coming from... you guessed it, a goofy looking radio guy.
4) Why does it always have to end at 9:59:59? The Grammys, Oscars, AMA’s all go long. Get Shania Twain into her performing duds and let ‘er rip!
5) Hugh Jackman was a bit rigid for a presenter. Here's a novel idea. Ban the teleprompter. Talk from the heart. These presenters are big musical artists and big time movie stars. They can't memorize three sentences...or God forbid, wing it?
6) Kenny Chesney seemed very melancholy and almost sad when accepting the Entertainer of the Year award. He seemed a little tired/overwhelmed/stressed/depressed. Don’t you think?
I’d love to hear your comments.

Ok here it is! We're are at the final four and Coffey is still around. Hey being unique isn't gonna get you very far it may may you work harder though just ask John Rich! I was shocked and surprised last night by the finale. Ahsley and Shawn in the bottom two and Ashley is the one going home. Now let me clarify somehting. I am not shocked by last nights performance because Shawn, as John mentioned later, has excelled the last few weeks and saved herself from certain elimination in following the tutoring of Jeffrey teele. I hope you all can make it to May City Wednesday night for the concert at nine pm in the street and she will be signing autographs before the show at Spencer's Southpark Mall at 3:30pm tomorrow afternoon. I am confident that the next show will determine the real winners. The most inpressive performance last night in my mind though was Shawn's by far with gabe a close second followed by Melissa and Coffey whom I can't believe is still on the show but what do I know I actually thought Ashley had a shot to win it! I am still very disappointed in the show itself and think it has been ruined by NBC from what the model was on USA Network which is now owned by NBC. Billy Ray Cyrus is no better than someone being pulled out of the audience to host and the judges are great artists but just aweful as judges with the exception of Jeffrey Steele in my opinion. Ashley will survive and may end up bigger than you think though because we all remember Miranda Lambert from season one she was voted out and succeded. The kiss of death may ultimately be the winner. Who honestly remembers last years winner even though she and her brother were very talented Angela and Zack Hacker. Where is Angela now? What Happened to Chris Young? Where is Buddy Jewel after two hits? Do you see my pattern here. I'd like to know your thoughts on the show so far....
